5 down, 2 to go: my Seven Summits so far

The Seven Summits are the highest mountain on each continent. I have five. Here is where I stand.

Done

Aconcagua, 6,961 m, South America. I topped out twenty minutes inside the turnaround time, moving two steps and then fifteen breaths at a time.

Denali, 6,194 m, North America. A plane drops you on a glacier and you haul 25 kilos on your back and 25 more in a sled, because you carry your own food.

Kilimanjaro, 5,895 m, Africa.

Elbrus, 5,642 m, Europe.

Kosciuszko, 2,228 m, Australia. The one you can almost walk up.

To go

Everest, 8,848 m, Asia. Postponed in 2026, three days before the flight, for a heart rhythm issue. Still on the list.

Vinson, 4,892 m, Antarctica. The cold, far one, where the logistics are half the climb.
